Home Moving tips Living rooms

Packing electronics safely

Many living rooms contain various electronic devices, such as a television, speakers, video game consoles, or a router. These devices are often fragile and therefore require extra care when packing.

Start by unplugging all cables. It can be helpful to label the cables or take a photo of the connections before disconnecting everything. That way, you’ll know exactly how to reconnect everything later.

Ideally, pack electronic devices with protective materials, such as packing paper, foam, or bubble wrap. Preferably use sturdy moving boxes and avoid boxes from hardware stores or other discount retailers, as these are often less sturdy. We also supply suitable packing materials specifically designed for the safe transport of electronics.

Moving a TV

A television is one of the most fragile appliances in the living room. Larger TVs, in particular, are susceptible to pressure or impact during transport.

If you still have the original packaging, it’s best to use it. If you no longer have it, it’s wise to protect the television well with cardboard and protective materials.

Don’t forget to keep the remote control, cables, and any parts of the TV stand together. You can create a separate box for important items, such as remotes, cables, and screws. Label this box, for example, as “Keybox” or “Important Box,” so it’s loaded into the moving truck last and can be unloaded first at the new location.

Packing decorations and plants

Living rooms often contain various decorative items and plants, such as vases, picture frames, figurines, and houseplants. These items are often fragile and therefore require extra care when packing for the move.

Wrap fragile decorations individually in protective paper or bubble wrap and place packing material in the box so the items cannot shift during transport. It may also be helpful to provide extra protection for personal photos or valuable decorations, or to keep them separate.

Plants are best transported upright and, if necessary, protected with paper or plastic wrap around the pot. Keep in mind that plants are usually not insured during a move. Also, clearly mark the box to indicate that it contains fragile items.

Disassembling furniture

Larger pieces of furniture in the living room are often difficult to move in one piece. Think, for example, of cabinets, TV stands, or large tables. In many cases, it is therefore a good idea to disassemble the furniture beforehand.

By taking furniture apart, it takes up less space in the moving truck and reduces the risk of damage.

It’s best to store screws and small parts in a small bag and attach it to the piece of furniture or keep it in a clearly labeled box.

Other items from the living room

In addition to furniture and electronics, there are often many other items in the living room. Think, for example, of small tables, magazines, remote controls, or other accessories.

It’s a good idea to pack these loose items into moving boxes as much as possible. Clearly label the boxes with their general contents and also note which room in the new home the box belongs in. Preferably write this on the side of the box so it’s visible even when boxes are stacked.

By labeling the boxes properly, everything stays organized, and our movers can place the items directly in the right spot in your home. This makes unpacking much faster and more organized later on.
