Home Moving tips Laundry rooms and attics

Packing books, CDs, and DVDs

Books, CDs, and DVDs are often heavier than they appear and can easily be damaged if not packed properly.

It’s best to place books upright in the box, just as they are on a bookshelf. You can leave CDs and DVDs in their original cases and place them side by side in a box. Use several small boxes instead of one large one, so that the weight per box remains manageable.

Make sure to label the boxes clearly so that you can easily unpack and put everything away when you arrive at your new home.

Appliances in the laundry room

Washing machines, dryers, and other appliances are often heavy and take up a lot of space. It’s important to disconnect these appliances properly and prepare them for transport to prevent damage during the move.

Make sure all water lines and hoses are empty and turn off the faucets. Protect drums and moving parts, and wrap the appliances in blankets or plastic wrap to prevent scratches and dents during the move.

Be sure to clearly label appliances and, if necessary, note which cables or parts belong to which appliance. This way, everything will arrive safely and organized at the new location.

Sorting and packing attic items

Attics often contain items that haven’t been used in a long time, such as old clothes, toys, documents, or seasonal items. It’s a good idea to first decide which items you want to keep and which you want to get rid of. This saves space and prevents you from having to move an unnecessary number of boxes.

Pack the remaining items by category into boxes or storage bins. Fragile items, such as lamps or glassware, should be packed separately with sufficient protective material to ensure they remain safe during transport.

Make sure all boxes are clearly labeled so that when you arrive at your new home, you can quickly and easily unpack and organize your belongings.

Discard old moving boxes and pack them into new ones to prevent the bottoms from tearing.

Stack and organize your belongings safely

When loading the moving truck, it’s important to arrange attic items and appliances in a safe and organized manner. Place heavy boxes at the bottom, while lighter and fragile items should go on top.

If possible, use sturdy boxes and storage bins to ensure everything remains stable during transport. Provide extra protection for fragile items and fill empty spaces with paper or blankets to prevent shifting.

By organizing your belongings this way, you’ll prevent damage and maintain a clear overview, making unpacking in your new home much easier.
